About The Course

The Emergency Medicine Early Warning System (EMEWS) course is designed to support healthcare professionals in identifying and managing undiagnosed adult patients presenting to Emergency Departments. This programme focuses on applying the EMEWS framework to accurately observe, record, and escalate clinical care when needed. It helps frontline staff track vital signs, use the EMEWS Chart, and implement the ISBAR communication tool for effective patient management. The course is particularly useful for doctors and nurses working in emergency and acute care settings, aiming to improve patient safety and outcomes through early identification of clinical deterioration.

Learning Outcomes

Record, track, and trend vital signs and clinical observations in the EMEWS Chart.
Identify the purpose of the Patient Specific Monitoring Plan for recording vital signs and planning escalation.
Recognise early signs of a deteriorating patient.
Escalate care appropriately using the ISBAR communication tool.
Complete an event log for patients requiring escalation of care.
