This in-depth module covers the standard principles and best practice guidelines in regard to the neurological conditions of both Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and focuses on how they can be managed within health and social care settings. It covers anatomy and physiology of the neurological system and goes into detail of the symptoms and types, epidemiology and progression of both conditions.

MND is a progressive neurological condition where motor neurones in the brain and spinal cord degenerate, leading to muscle weakness, wasting, and loss of movement over time.
Symptoms include muscle weakness, cramps, twitching, difficulty speaking or swallowing, breathing problems, fatigue, and progressive loss of mobility.
There is currently no cure for MND. Treatment focuses on symptom management, slowing progression where possible, and improving quality of life.
MND is managed using a multidisciplinary team, including neurologists, therapists, nurses, and palliative care, to support physical, emotional, and practical needs.
