Welcome to the Care Learning Mental Capacity course. This training is designed to enhance your understanding of mental capacity, familiarize you with the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and other pertinent laws, and clarify your duties as a care professional in this area. By participating in this course, you will be well-prepared to meet the CQC Fundamental Standards, which include delivering person-centred care, obtaining informed consent, and safeguarding individuals from abuse.This course is CPD accreditted.

• Defining Capacity: Understand 'capacity' as the ability of an individual to make decisions for themselves.
• Principles of Mental Capacity: Recognize the fundamental principles underlying mental capacity, focusing on respecting and supporting individuals in decision-making.
• Key Concepts of Mental Capacity Legislation: Familiarize yourself with critical elements from legislation such as the Mental Capacity Act (2005), Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000, and Mental Capacity Act (Northern Ireland) 2016.
• Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS): Describe DoLS as measures to protect individuals who lack the capacity to make certain decisions, ensuring any deprivation of liberty is lawful and in their best interests.
• Your Role in Using Mental Capacity: As a care professional, understand your responsibility in assessing mental capacity and using this understanding to provide appropriate care.
• Legal Frameworks, Policies, and Guidelines: Identify and comprehend the legal frameworks, policies, and guidelines that govern your role and responsibilities in relation to mental capacity.
