About The Course

Sexuality and sexual health are essential, interconnected components of overall health and well-being. However, the development of a comprehensive approach to sexual health has progressed slowly. Despite its critical importance, the role of sexuality within sexual health remains under-recognized among healthcare providers. This knowledge gap contributes to inadequate sexual health programs, limited access to essential services, and harmful outcomes such as stigma and discrimination at the population level.

This course aims to strengthen healthcare professionals' understanding of sexuality and sexual health, promoting their meaningful integration into mainstream health services. By doing so, it supports better recognition and protection of patients' sexual and reproductive health and rights, ultimately contributing to more equitable and inclusive healthcare.

Learning Outcomes

Define key terms such as sexual health, sexuality, and sexual orientation in accordance with WHO standards.
Differentiate between sexual health and reproductive health, and understand their interlinked yet distinct roles.
Explain the influence of social, cultural, economic, and political determinants on sexual health outcomes.
Identify the unique challenges faced by marginalized groups and the protective factors that promote sexual well-being.
Describe the role of sexual rights in achieving optimal health and how these relate to human rights.
Apply WHO’s framework for operationalizing sexual health in policy, education, and healthcare interventions.
Promote a positive, inclusive, and evidence-based approach to sexual health education and service delivery.
